This project was designed to ignite our students&#8217; passion for technical skills and computational thinking, and they truly rose to the challenge with impressive results and enthusiasm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project comprised three distinct and engaging modules, each pushing our students to explore different facets of technology and its real-world applications:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first module, \u00abOptimize, Design, and Minimize,\u00bb challenged students to think like engineers and mathematicians. They delved into computational thinking, linear programming, and even differentiation to determine the most efficient way to produce cardboard boxes from a single sheet of cardboard. This complex task truly honed their problem-solving abilities and demonstrated the practical power of theoretical concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next up was \u00abDurability by Design,\u00bb a module that sparked considerable creativity and critical thinking. Students investigated the concepts of planned obsolescence and durable design, gaining valuable insights into the lifecycle of products. They then put their newfound knowledge into practice, using TinkerCad and our 3D printer to design and print their own durable phone cases. We were particularly impressed with the quality and ingenuity of some of the phone cases produced, showcasing their practical design and manufacturing skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, \u00abScreen Sense\u00bb proved to be an incredibly impactful and popular module. Students explored the significant health impacts of screen usage, a topic that resonated deeply with them. Many were genuinely unaware of the various ways screen time can affect their well-being. Armed with this crucial information, they then produced informative and eye-catching posters to educate others about these impacts.
