Cultural Connections: Our IB Exchange Experience in Poznan

This March, our group of 1 IBDP students embarked on an unforgettable exchange to Poznań, Poland, as part of our International Baccalaureate (IB) learning journey. This trip was not just about visiting a new country but about immersing ourselves in Polish culture, connecting with local families, and embracing key aspects of the IB learner profile.
From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed warmly by our Polish host families. Living with them gave us a unique perspective on their daily lives, traditions, and hospitality. It was a true exercise in open-mindedness as we adapted to different customs and tried new foods.
Exploring the beautiful city of Poznań was a highlight of the trip. We admired the historical Old Market Square, with its colorful Renaissance buildings, and watched the famous mechanical goats at the Town Hall clock—a symbol of the city’s heritage. Walking through the streets, we discovered how history and modernity blend seamlessly in this vibrant place.
A particularly delicious experience was the St. Martin’s croissant workshop, where we learned the art of making this sweet pastry, a tradition deeply rooted in Poznań’s culture. This hands-on activity encouraged our risk-taking spirit as we tried our best to shape and bake the perfect croissant.
Another special moment was attending a concert at the host school. It was inspiring to see how music brought students together, regardless of nationality. Through this, we truly experienced communicating beyond words, appreciating the universality of artistic expression.
This exchange was an incredible opportunity to develop as balanced and reflective learners, stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing new perspectives. Our time in Poznań was more than just a trip; it was a lesson in cultural appreciation, global understanding, and personal growth—values that are at the heart of the IB experience.
